on Uyghur identity

Creative Work Outline
“The Notification” is an artwork about language and festivals, personal affections and politics. A notification from an unfamiliar authority, using an unconversant language, while controlling the most important also your favourite festival – how would you feel about this power system?
The layout of the notification is inspired by the “Red Head Document” issued by the Chinese central government, which reminds its audiences of the government, the Party, and documents they have released.
The language used in this regulation is Uyghur, a language which most of us are unfamiliar with. The content is saying “In order to maintain social stability and pursue national prosperity, please stay at home for the Spring Festival. Gatherings of more than 7 people are not allowed. Issued by the Turkistan government.”
By issuing a notification in a foreign language which bans a festival that the audience is familiar with, I wish to invite the audience to put themselves in the Uyghurs’ position, as well as to ponder how this power system can emotionally harm the marginal group by banning their cultural events.
