Looking at Society’s Attitudes towards LGBTQ+ through Hong Kong Pop Songs-- The Part of 《酷兒》
Trista TUNG Wan Ying
My group interviewed Dr. Chow Yiu Fai, a local queer lyricist. My creative piece is an Instagram post on a Cantopop lyrics appreciation page @blueskymusic2020, writing about the song 《酷兒》 (2008) which depicts the first-person thoughts of queers as a marginalised identity in our society. Aiming to raise public awareness of issues related to the LGBTQ+ community, the post will focus the main message of the song plus some lyrics analysis. This can help Cantopop audience learn about the said issue in a more casual way. To cater for the style of the page, my post will not be written in an academic style, but we will dig deeper in the presentation part by applying theories, share more on the interview preparation and our own reflections.

Our interviewee Dr. Chow Yiu Fai, who is a lyricist focusing on themes about alternative sexuality and admits himself as of a marginalized identity, shared his personal experience and opinions in relation to his non-mainstream works, as well as his expectations on the Hong Kong society concerning LGBTQ+ development in the interview.
The Part of 《雌雄同體》
Our creative piece will be presented in the form of Instagram posts. An analysis of the song 《雌雄同體》 (2005) is posted to a Cantopop lyrics appreciation page @blueskymusic2020. Knowing Dr. Chow’s unique view on gender stereotype, the post delves into particular lines of the song, where the similarities and differences of the two genders are discussed.
