Creative Work Outline

The creative work for my service-learning project is a podcast episode, which features me as the host and two of my friends who are Chinese danmei fans as guests. In our 20-minute conversation, we start off with light humour by talking about our personal experiences with danmei culture, and then gradually shift towards more serious topics by delving into some specific phenomenon in Chinese danmei fandom.

The title of this short, entertaining podcast, “Boy Next Door,” embodies some of my own thoughts on danmei culture. It represents ideas that can be seen as romantic and clichéd but can also be very everyday and approachable. The form of a podcast belongs to today’s fast Internet fashion. For me, it is a perfect platform to discuss danmei culture, which also blossomed in the digital age.

In this creative project, I wish to use the most humorous, down-to-earth approach to sketch out the most realistic portrait of a danmei fan, or a funü.
